cal metro area teams Destrehan (Class 5A), Shaw (Class 4A) and Curtis (Class 2A) all earned top seeds as the Louisiana High School Athletic Association released its football playoff brackets Sunday.

All three will open with home games this weekend. Destrehan will play West Jefferson, Shaw against Istrouma and Curtis, the defending Class 2A state champion, against Mamou. Lutcher, the defending Class 3A state champ, was seeded fifth and will play Catholic--New Iberia in the first round at Lutcher.

One thing that won't happen this year is Curtis and Evangel, last year's 1A state champion who moved up to 2A, will not play for the 2A state championship. The pair would meet in the semifinals. Evangel is the fourth seed in 2A. St. James, which defeated Curtis during the regular season, is the two seed.
