colts game

Three observations before the Colts game starts
Who knows what the 49ers will do now. They are clearly looking at a lost season. They were defeated by a very beatable team that was down. Here are three observations on the 49ers' day.

1.Smith had a bad day: I'm not breaking any news here, but not only did the 49ers quarterback throw three interceptions, he had three players open for possible touchdowns and overthrew all of them.

2. The offensive line has played well the last two games. Snyder gave up two sacks to John Abraham on speed rushes, but overall the line has protected fairly well against the Saints and Falcons. Mike Nolan said that Jonas Jennings will get his job back when he returns from a twisted ankle. But why mess with the chemistry? In a dismal season, the line playing better is a very muted bright spot.

3. Jeff Ulbrich seemed to give the team a lift on defense by substituting for Derek Smith at times Sunday. That should probably continue. The 49ers also found a second running back in Michael Robinson. The trend is to go with two running backs these days because defenses are so physical. Robinson has always been extremely good at picking up blitzes, now it looks like he can also pick up yards.

Question: Looking at 2-6, with six straight losses, what should the 49ers do now?
