NEW YORK (AP) ― Nathaniel Marston, who plays a doctor on ABC's "One Life to Live," has been released without bail following his arraignment on assault and other charges in an altercation in midtown Manhattan.
Marston, 32, attacked three men with a crate around 4:30 a.m. Sunday at 10th Avenue and 45th Street, says a felony complaint filed in Manhattan Criminal Court.
The complaint charges that Marston struck one man on the hand; hit another in the back of the neck, causing bruising and swelling; then caused the third man to be hospitalized with a broken leg.
When officers tried to arrest Marston, he began flailing his arms and kicking at officers and refused to be handcuffed, the complaint says. It says Officer Sean Turner had medical treatment for a cut hand and a bruised knee.
Jennifer Kushner, spokeswoman for the Manhattan district attorney's office, said Marston was treated at Bellevue Hospital Center for scrapes and bruises before his court appearance.
Lauri Hogan, a spokeswoman for ABC, said, "We're aware of the incident and (are) reviewing its details."
Marston's lawyer, Tom Klein, declined to comment Monday.
Marston was charged with four counts of second-degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest. He was released without bail by Judge John Cataldo.
His next court appearance is set for Feb. 4, 2008.
Marston plays Dr. Michael McBain on "One Life to Live." He previously played Eddie Silva on the CBS daytime soap opera "As the World Turns."
ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Co. CBS is a division of CBS Corp.
Soap Actor Nathaniel Marston Arrested for Assault of Three
One Life to Live star Nathaniel Marston went crazy Sunday morning and beat up three random people in NYC.
The actor, who has had a history of anger management issues, having been arrested in 1999 for punching an ATM, went on a rampage, after what seemed to be a fight with a taxi driver, allegedly assaulting one man with a crate and breaking another's leg.
Police say that Nathaniel seemed to be under the influence of narcotics, possible cocaine, and that he resisted arrest, fighting off the cops. He was charged with two counts each of felony assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon as well as one count of resisting arrest. He was taken to Bellevue hospital, where he was labeled an emotionally disturbed person.
Sources say the actor will most likely lose his job on the soap. He was suddenly fired with no explanation in 2003, but was rehired when fans wrote in protesting his dismissal. It's doubtful, after this incident, that they'll be yet another life for Nathaniel to live.
This time of year can get pretty hectic with summer winding down and people getting settled back into their regular routines. I wanted to take a moment to let you all know what a great time I had at our annual fan club party at Agozar! this August. I was blown away by how many of you made a special trip to New York City just for this event. It was a lot of fun seeing so many familiar faces and catching up with what's going on in your lives. I was also truly happy to meet all our new fan club members. And a special thanks to everyone for the awesome reception you gave to my buddy Sean Ringgold who plays Vincent's body guard Shaun on OLTL. I know he had a great time meeting you all, too.
Speaking of saying "Thank You", I really appreciate all the positive feedback I've been getting for my work. The "Tommy" storyline has given me some strong material to work with, and I'm glad to know my performances have resonated so deeply for so many of you. Your support means more to me than I can adequately express.
